Mourinho sacked after Chelsea crisis meeting

Posted by Falcao | Thursday, September 20, 2007

Chelsea have confirmed that manager Jose Mourinho has left the Stamford Bridge club by 'mutual consent' after three trophy-laden years at the helm.

A club statement claims that the decision was reached after the launch of a new Chelsea documentary - Blue Revolution - at the Vue cinema in Fulham on Wednesday night, where an emotional Mourinho refused to talk to the press.

However, the rumours of his departure began earlier in the day and claimed that billionaire owner Roman Abramovich called crisis talks following Tuesday night's disappointing 1-1 draw with Norwegian minnows Rosenborg in the Champions League, at which the fractious duo had a furious falling out.

Mourinho is believed to have informed senior players of his departure following training on Wednesday and one of those players insists that the manager has not resigned but has been sacked by the Blues.

Mourinho's rocky relationship with Abramovich was public knowledge and despite an apparent thaw in relations last season the duo were again at odds over the role of £30million striker Andrei Shevchenko and the Blues' dour style of football even before Tuesday's result brought events to a head.

The Portuguese manager, who has won the Champions League with Porto and two Premier League titles as Chelsea manager, was the subject of continual scrutiny last season and hinted at an exit last summer when he admitted he 'was a bit fed up with certain things' at the club.

After three-years at the London club the self-styled 'Special One' is expected to attend training for the final time on Thursday, when he will say good bye to his players.

Chelsea lost their title to Manchester United last season and have started this campaign with some lacklustre displays.

Their last two Premier League games ended in a defeat at Aston Villa and a 0-0 draw at home to Blackburn Rovers, leaving them fifth in the table.

Tuesday's draw with Rosenborg Trondheim in the Champions League was watched by just 25,000 fans.

Chelsea's next match is against Premier League champions Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Lucky Manchester United

Posted by Falcao | Saturday, September 15, 2007

Manchester United come out with the late winner earlier today and this is the third consecutive win. In 83rd minutes Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic to score a vital goal at Goodison Park to send his side level on points at the top of the Barclays Premier League.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side, who have struggled for form and goals over the first month of the season, appeared to be heading for their third draw in six matches as Everton matched them for long periods at Goodison Park. Everton put a good fight as midweek hero James McFadden partnership with Andrew Johnson to test Van De Sar at the back line.

With Ronaldo back in the squad after serving a three-match suspension for head-butting Portsmouth's Richard Hughes last month, Manchester United still struggling upfront even though they got Tevez.

It was a lucky point for Manchester United as Nani's corner headed by high climbing Vidic and break the deadlock.

Di Natale saves the day for the World Champion. This group is very tight. After France lost to Scotland. The World Champion remain in second place, Scotland goes top of the group and France slipped to third place. Definitely France will do or die mission if they want to stay on track.

Parit Selikur Pick of the Week

Posted by Falcao | Saturday, September 15, 2007

C.Bellamy
M.Owen
F.Torres

C.Ronaldo
J.Koumas
F.Malouda
C.Dempsey

G.Bale
J.Belletti
P.Scharner

C.Kirkland

This is my pick for Week 5. Apart of Torres, I choose Bellamy and Owen in striker base on their recent performance in EURO 2008 Qualifiying. Even though it's a bit risky that they will leave in the bench, or tired after contribute to their nation, they are good enough to return value.

Ronaldo is back after three match ban. We will see how he perform against Everton this week. He's been very consistent last season along with Rooney, but definitely this season is different and not a good start by Sir Alex Ferguson team.

So far, Bale seems to be performer in defence. For cheap, and gets forward heaps I choose Belletti. Should justify his price with a cleansheet and a few crosses.

For stopper, hopefully Kirkland can give something for my team at least return value.

Heskey raring to go as Owen reunion looms

Posted by Falcao | Friday, September 07, 2007

Source: ESPN Soccernet

Emile Heskey insists he never gave up hope of earning an England recall as he relishes the prospect of resuming his partnership with Michael Owen.

Heskey could make his first appearance since the Euro 2004 finals in Portugal in Saturday's qualifier for the 2008 tournament against Israel, after being called into the squad this week by Steve McClaren.

Owen has always sung the praises of Heskey and he has scored 11 times in 12 starts alongside him - including his hat-trick in the 5-1 demolition of Germany in Munich in 2001.

And many strikers have commented on the unselfish nature of 29-year-old who has so far won 43 caps since making his debut against Hungary in 1999.

The Wigan striker told the FA's wesbite: 'I wasn't expecting the call-up to be honest. I was on my way home from the game at Newcastle last weekend and I got the call.

'I was a bit surprised, but delighted as well to be back in the England squad.

'We've got a new manager in Steve McClaren, who was number two at the time I last played, and we've got a lot of younger players. But it's good. Still the quality and everything is here.

'I'd never given up hope of a recall but you know the situation with the national team. We've got so many good players coming through at the minute so he's got to pick from a lot.

'But it's good, I'm enjoying every minute of it. The lads have taken me in well again, so I'm enjoying it.

'I'm that sort of unselfish player who will try my hardest and I think a lot of people see that in me.'

Heskey is delighted to be reunited with Owen, who scored a last-gasp winner for Newcastle against the Latics at St James' Park.

He said: 'It's always been a joy playing alongside Michael Owen. I've played with Michael many times going back England Under-18s level.

'We kind of gelled then and it's gone on through most of my career. It's been a joy to play with him.

'He's a brilliant player, a fantastic goalscorer. If I get a chance on Saturday alongside Michael, it will be excellent.'

Pertemuan dgn sabah smalam agak mendebarkan. Khalid jamlus menjadi wira perak dgn 2 gol. Tapi dalam masa yg sama perak banyak membazirkan peluang keemasan. Jika sabah berjaya seri 2-2 smalam, perak bungkus.

Hampeh punya sham. Dah le orang tolong belikan tiket untuk dia, sampai pulak lambat. Jenuh menunggu. Sham lebam nyaris nak jual balik tiket tu sebagai tanda geram kat sham bapak.

Lepas ni wartawan dah serik nak belikan tiket utk kawan kerana dah banyak kali terkena terpaksa tunggu lama. Lepas ni kirim salam je la.

WARTAWAN NGERI NAIK KERETA DENGAN ADLI
Ngeri betui wartawan naik kete dgn adli smalam. Dia terlampau cekap memandu. Macam pemandu F1 di litar sepang. Senak gak perut wartawan. Masa makan malam kat batu gajah, Elyas tergoda dgn awek keje situ kerana teteknya beso. Hehehe.

This is very confident start of Spanish La Liga from Real Madrid. Two win out of two. After few years empty handed, the Galacticos return to sparks La Liga last season, stole the crown from Barca. I believe they want more this season, especially to be crown as the best club in Europe.

Raul and Van Nilsterooy still one of the best striker partners in Europe. Their individual goal scoring records in European competition has proven themselves as the Real’s predators.

Is Galacticos really returned to its best?

Drogba bermain sambil lewa antara punca utama dan juga kehebatan pertahanan lawan yg Berjaya menghalang setiap gerakan Chelsea. Azman pasti gembira dgn kekalahan Chelsea ini.

Bundesliga - Hamburg end Bayern run

Posted by Falcao | Monday, September 03, 2007

Eurosport - Sun, 02 Sep 19:06:00 2007

Champions Stuttgart suffered a 1-0 defeat at local rivals Karlsruhe, while Hamburg ended Bayern Munich's perfect start to the season by holding the Bundesliga leaders to a 1-1 draw.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Bundesliga Bayern Klose - 0

Miroslav Klose scored his 100th Bundesliga goal to give Bayern a second-half lead against Hamburg but the home side forced an equaliser through Mohamed Zidan three minutes from time.

Bayern continue to lead the standings with 10 points from four matches, followed by a group of five teams, including Hamburg and Werder Bremen, on seven.

Stuttgart are down in 15th place, just one spot above the relegation zone, with four points from four games.

Hamburg deserved their late equaliser against Bayern after attacking relentlessly, despite the absence of their Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart.

Ivica Olic and Piotr Trochowski controlled the midfield for Hamburg, while an off day for a scarcely fit Franck Ribery meant Bayern were lacking their usual spark in attack.

Bayern did not have a single clear chance until Christian Lell made space on the right and fired a cross into the middle with 20 minutes to go.

With the defence asleep it dropped straight to Klose and the Germany international was lucky to see it strike his thigh and go in.

Substitute Lukas Podolski missed a chance to make it 2-0 and Hamit Altintop forced a diving save from Frank Rost before Hamburg got the equaliser.

As Zidan ran towards goal, Martin Demichelis and Lucio missed chances to clear properly and the ball fell first to David Jarolim and then came back to Zidan to sweep home from a few yards.

Karlsruhe midfielder Tamas Hajnal made the breakthrough for the promoted side early in the second half. Stuttgart coach Armin Veh could only watch as his players failed to prevent a second defeat in the defence of their title.

La Liga - Real thump Villarreal

Posted by Falcao | Monday, September 03, 2007

Eurosport - Sun, 02 Sep 22:39:00 2007

Real Madrid hit five past Villarreal on Saturday to make it two wins out of two so far this season while Barcelona scored their first win of the new campaign with a 3-1 victory over Athletic Club.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Villarreal-Real Madrid Raúl Raul - 0

VILLARREAL 0-5 REAL MADRID

At El Madrigal Real Madrid overcame some stiff first half opposition from Villarreal to ultimately teach their hosts a footballing lesson and run out 5-0 winners.

Summer signing Wesley Sneijder netted twice with Raul, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Guti completing the rout as Real maintained their perfect start to the new campaign.

Raul got the ball rolling after 39 minutes, putting Real ahead in typical fashion. The veteran striker proved he is still at the top of his game by making a run in between two Villarreal defenders to bravely reach a long Sneijder ball ahead of the advancing Sebastian Viera and prod home.

Villarreal reacted well to going behind and should have gone in at the break at least on level terms. Only a last ditch Christoph Metzelder tackle prevented Jon Dahl Tomasson a shooting opportunity on 42 minutes before Iker Casillas saved from Giuseppe Rossi on the stroke of half time.

Villarreal came out of blocks quickly after the break, Tomasson stinging Casillas' fingers seconds after the restart, but some clinical finishing during a two minute spell soon after effectively sealed the victory for Real.

Sneijder bagged his first goal in a Real shirt with a stunning free kick in the 49th minute before Sergio Ramos found Van Nistelrooy with an inch perfect cross to the far post a minute later, the Dutchman applying the clinical final touch.

Sneijder's second came on 73 minutes when he took one touch to control Guti's pass before firing a shot just inside the post with the outside of his right boot. Guti himself then completed the scoring with a shot from the edge of the box with ten minutes remaining.

BARCELONA 3-1 ATHLETIC CLUB

A first half brace from Ronaldinho and Yaya Toure's debatable strike gave the hosts their first goals of the season and all three points.

Having drawn their opener last weekend against Racing Santander, Barca seemed intent on making a point that they are still very much contenders for the title this season.

And a blistering first half was testament to that school of thought as Ronaldinho conducted the Barca orchestra and the hosts threatened to run riot in their first game at the Nou Camp this season.

It took the Brazilian just nine minutes to make an impact on the game, blasting the hosts into the lead with a superbly struck free kick from 25 yards out which flew into the top right hand corner.

Ronaldinho very nearly repeated the feat minutes later from an almost identical position but this time his effort went just the wrong side of the bar.

Thierry Henry, making his first start since his summer move from Arsenal, then won the penalty which handed Ronaldinho a chance to convert his second of the night. Hope

Although the decision was harsh on Athletic - keeper Gorka Iraizoz was hit in the face by Henry's trailing leg rather than him actually bringing the striker down - Barca deserved a second, such was their dominance of the opening period.

The argument was of no import to Ronaldinho, who slotted home the spot kick with aplomb.

Ronaldinho could even have finished the half with a hat-trick, but his first time effort at the far post in injury time was well blocked by Iraizoz.

Barca started the second half in a similar vein, Henry seeing a shot cannon back off the woodwork in a second successive game. The Frenchman was eventually replaced by exciting youngster Giovani Dos Santos, who nearly made an immediate impact only to see his measured effort go wide of the mark.

Athletic briefly threatened to get back into the game, Susaeta improving on his earlier near miss from a free kick with a cool finish after a terrible flap from Victor Valdes on 71 minutes.

But Barca responded immediately, although again there was an element of luck to it. Yaya Toure let fly with a thunderbolt which struck the underside of the bar before bouncing out to safety, only for the linesman to belatedly signal he thought the ball had crossed the line. Later television replays were inconclusive to say the least.

Both teams were reduced to ten men as full time approached, Barca's Rafael Marquez receiving his marching orders for a second bookable offence and Athletic's Koikili going for a dangerous hack on Giovani.

ALMERIA 1-2 VALENCIA

Almeria had Valencia against the ropes until two minutes after the restart when Spain striker Fernando Morientes fired in from the edge of the area.

The visitors held the lead until the 63rd when Almeria striker Alvaro Negredo headed in from a corner.

Valencia's Italian defender Emiliano Moretti poked in the winner from a flicked on free kick 10 minutes from time.

ATLETICO MADRID 1-1 MALLORCA

Atletico were held to a 1-1 draw by Mallorca at the Vicente Calderon.

Mallorca broke away to score through striker Daniel Guiza in the 19th minute to leave the Primera Division's second highest spenders struggling until fullback Mariano Pernia struck from the edge of the area in the 77th.

GETAFE 1-1 RECREATIVO

A tight game swung Recre's way when Getafe had midfielder Mario Cotelo sent-off after alleged play-acting from visiting striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle in the 65th minute.

The French striker went on to put Recre ahead on a break in the 85th, but in the final minute Getafe striker Manu del Moral headed an equaliser from a free kick.

REAL BETIS 2-2 ESPANYOL

Real Betis scored two late goals to snatch a 2-2 draw at home to Espanyol.

Luis Garcia turned in Pablo Zabaleta's pull-back in the 33rd minute and then spun to lash in a spectacular second in the 42nd.

Betis finally found a way past Espanyol's Cameroon keeper Carlos Kameni when striker Fernando looped in a header six minutes from time. A minute later, Brazilian striker Rafael Sobis rounded Kameni for the equaliser.

VALLADOLID 2-2 DEPORTIVO

Valladolid battled out an entertaining 2-2 draw at home to Deportivo, who came back from behind twice to earn a point.

Centre back Jose Antonio Garcia Calvo headed Valladolid in front from a corner on the stroke of halftime but Uruguayan striker Sebastian Taborda headed Depor level in the 54th.

A cool touch and finish from the impressive Sisi restored Valladolid's lead in the 72nd, before Depor striker Riki's clever lob ensured parity again in the 78th.

Sevilla's match against Osasuna was postponed to allow Sevilla to play AEK in a postponed Champions League qualifer following the tragic death of wingback Antonio Puerta.
